A painted portrait combines traditional photographic imagery with hand-applied painting artistry. Using a mixed media approach, I blend a variety of mediums, from modern electronic brushes to traditional artists' oil brushes.

The painting commission begins with a photographic reference image (or sometimes a blend of images) and is transformed into a work of art, initially on the computer using electronic brushwork, to re-imagine the original image stroke by stroke, as a hand-painted rendering. Later, the painting is printed onto watercolor paper and/or artists' canvas. The Signature paintings are further enhanced with brush oils, textures and glazes. 

There is a $75 reservation to hold your sitting time at the event.

At your Ordering Appointment, you will receive a bonus Studio Credit of $150 to apply towards the purchase of your Portrait Artwork. Prices start at $295 for a photographic finish, $950 for painted portraits on watercolor paper, $1850 for hand-painted portraits on canvas, and are available up to life-size. Payment plans are available. 

Children of all ages are welcome. I find the 'sweet spot' ideal age group falls in the 3 to 6 year range while your child is forming his or her distinctive personality and features, yet still has that charming baby face.

I have created paintings of children as young as 6-12 months of age, as long as they are able to sit up independently on their own without any risk of toppling over. Children in the preteen to teenage years are welcome as well.

The Children's Painted Portrait Event is specifically focused on celebrating the individuality and uniqueness of each child, one at a time. It is my belief that each child deserves the attention and spotlight of having their own special portrait, and that one day, their heirloom portrait will follow them years later to a home of their own.

For this event, we will only photograph children one at a time. One registration fee and one time slot for each child.

Parents are welcome to register each of their children individually to participate one at a time in the event (each in a separate time slot), or they may opt to focus on scheduling just the oldest child now, and let the younger ones come back at another time when they reach the same age.

I advise my clients to think 'Classic' or 'Traditional'.

Clients who prefer formal attire for their child, will have their child wearing their 'Sunday best' or how they might dress up for a family wedding event. 

For girls, there's nothing better than a classic party dress, or a simple white or pastel colored summer dress. The best dresses are ones that are a solid color and have fabric that falls gently from their bodies and have a little room to fan out so they can sit comfortably. I generally recommend avoiding patterns or busy designs. 
 

For boys, I often find a solid colored oxford shirt is perfect (no stripes, checks or plaids). You can easily add a classic sports coat over the button down shirt. And if bow ties are your look, then let's do it. 

I've also had clients who have chosen to design their painting by dressing their child in the traditional clothing of their culture and heritage, whether it is beautiful silks, wraps or saris.
